Steve Allen FNPS, FBIPP, QEP, FBPPA(Master), FSICIP.
I am a professional ‘Stock’ Photographer.
My photographic career started in 1971 when I joined the NHS as a medical photographer. In 1983 I left the NHS to set up a Commercial Studio in Manchester with another photographer. My work here was mostly industrial photography, with some commercial, advertising and PR work. In 1989 I sold my share of the business and went solo, so I could concentrate on my personal ‘stock photography’.
I set up ‘Steve Allen Photography’, a small commercial studio.
Here I worked as an Industrial / Commercial photographer, before finally leaving behind commissioned work in 2001 to become a full-time ‘Stock’ Photographer. Up to this point I had been shooting stock as a supplement to my commissioned work. Since early 2001 my entire income has come from shooting ‘Stock’ images.
My current multi-agency digital ‘stock collection’ has over 55,800 image placements and around 500 video clips. (Some images & clips are ‘exclusive’ some ‘non-exclusive’)
Most of my income is from Getty Images and the range of other mainstream agencies I submit to. The 11 ‘Microstock’ sites I also submit to, now produce about 25% of my total income.
Well over half of my work is now Travel or Wildlife Photography.
I’m a ‘travelaholic’ and have so far visited 88 countries & territories on all seven continents, including both Antarctica and the Arctic (Greenland, Svalbard Islands and the Polar Ice).
