Zeiss Otus Apo Distagon 55mm f/1.4 T* Lens Announced

Zeiss has announced the launch of a new Zeiss Otus lens.

The Otus 55mm f/1.4 Distagon lens is a fast prime lens for Canon or Nikon DSLRs and can also be used on Leica M Typ 240 and mirrorless cameras with an adapter.

The Distagon T* f/1.4 55mm is the first in a line of new high-end SLR lenses from Zeiss. Zeiss say the most important aim in developing this lens was to achieve ‘no compromises image quality’.

The lens only has manual focusing, and Zeiss claim this will allow the user to take full advantage of it’s fantastic imaging performance.

Zeiss say the lens can achieve a medium format look, and that chromatic abberation is so low that practically no colour fringing occurs.

Dr Aurelian Didoc, Zeiss principal scientist stated on the Zeiss blog: “With this new family of lenses we want to offer photographers an artistic tool with which they can create perfect pictures. The optics should not pose any limits on the quality of the image. A photographer’s creativity should be the defining factor. We want to challenge photographers to create the perfect picture by providing the perfect optics.”
